Theories of Typography

According to Bob Carter, Ben Day, and Philip Meggs

typography is a visual form of communication(2007, p.1). Instead of an illustration, typography is a communication media through visible language.

Philip B. Meggs (1992, p.41) pointed out that in the past time, words are more powerful than images.Images used to illustrate and interpret the words. Nevertheless, in a historical reversal, words are oftenused to imply and sharpen the image.

Text can be a powerful media to describe and imply an image. A type has a power to specify a meaningof an image, therefore, when the viewer read the type with the specific meaning of the image, they cannot interpret the image they see freely.
